In the last two decades or so, educating students with critical thinking, creativity and innovative skills has become a primary concern for many teachers, policy makers, university administrators, and even parents in China. Current education reform in China indicates that policymakers and university administrators show serious concern, but under the pressure of exam-oriented education, memorization, and lecture pedagogy, faculty, university administrators and policy makers have not embraced it wholeheartedly.
EFL learners' critical thinking ability has been one of the research focuses in China in recent years. As a result, improving students' critical thinking ability has become a common view in the field of foreign language education, which is also conducive to China's long-term strategic development. In order to develop EFL learners' critical thinking ability, some scholars have tried to build up theoretical framework, while some education practitioners have tried to make some practical attempts.
